The Sindh High Court on Thursday directed the provincial home department to constitute a joint investigation team (JIT) to trace a missing citizen allegedly detained by the law enforcement agencies.
A division bench gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by Mst Mafia through which she sought direction for the law enforcers to produce her husband in the court.
The petitioner submitted that the paramilitary force had taken away her husband, Abrar Ahmed, from his tea hotel in Orangi Town on January 1 and since then his whereabouts were unknown to his family.
She said she had approached the officers of Rangers and police to seek information about her missing husband but they did not disclose any clue to his whereabouts. The petitioner, therefore, prayed the court to order the law enforcement agencies to produce her husband in the court.
During hearing, the court directed the investigation officer of the case to carry out an effective investigation into the matter and submit a report on next hearing. The Rangers’ counsel submitted a brief report in the court, stating that neither they had arrested the petitioner’s spouse nor held him captive. The hearing was adjourned till August 06.
