KPOGCL (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company Limited) is a provincial holding company created by the PTI to help establish a thriving oil and gas industry in Pakistan. The company has managed to start work on all the blocks in KP that were closed for security reasons for over 15 years. KPOGCL will also help establish a refinery in KP while they are also helping establish other O&G related industries in KP.

Although the company is doing excellent work and have been mentioned in many news articles for their quick deployment. There is one controversy that KPOGCL is creating that will create big problems for the PTI in the future.

PTI claims to be a fair and just party but the managers of KPOGCL are quickly proving them wrong. As the management of KPOGCL has taken upon their head to cheat and dishearten the local workers and professionals. KPOGCL was created as a company to help improve its working but instead the management has taken this opportunity to cheat the workers of the company.

In the entire company of 150 employees, only 3-5 have a contract while the rest are working on daily wages. Similarly, although no one is allowed to keep employees on daily wages for more than six months, the management of KPOGCL have kept workers on daily wages for more than a year.

Similarly, salaries of workers are not paid in full, as management claims that anyone coming late, even for a minute, will not get the salary for the entire day, using which they stop most of the salaries of employees. While there is no closing time in KPOGCL, employees have to work from 8AM to 9PM and even on weekends without any overtime pay.

But the biggest scandal that KPOGCL offers the PTI is the fact that in the company an engineer with more than 16 years of education will get a salary of Rs20,000 while a driver with no education will get a salary of Rs25,000.

All of these points highlight the fact that the management of KPOGCL is cheating the workers and professionals of KP. And eventually this company will create new scandals for the PTI government. The PTI government should ensure that all laws are followed in all the provincial holding companies as they represent the government and should set examples of following law.

  1. Something of an issue that PTI need to heed to straight away before it returns to haunt them in future. If the report is true then PTI has a long way to go towards delivering justice, equity; and fair opportunity. Current affairs in KPOGCL is not acceptable.
