Heavy rain in Karachi on Tuesday destroyed roads and caused tripping of 117 feeders. Several areas are awaiting power supply for more than 11 hours.
The K-Electric authorities said that a broken wire caused the fault. However, at least 90 feeders have been fixed until the filing of this report. Citizens faced difficulties due to the electrical power outages. The administration declared rain emergency. Vacations of officials of concerned departments were also suspended. Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui visited different affected areas and reviewed the situation after the rainfall.
According to details, an emergency meeting was called under the chair of commissioner. He stated that legal action would be taken against those officials of concerned departments who were found absent or those who deliberately avoided work. He ordered eradication of encroachments, removal of dangerous sign boards and advised round-the-clock working.
Meanwhile, the Met Office has forecasted cloudy weather with thunderstorm-rain with few moderate to heavy falls in the metropolis during the next 24 hours.
It forecasted that the maximum temperature was expected to remain in the range between 31 to 33 degrees centigrade. The Met Office recorded light to moderate rain at number of areas in the city on Tuesday.
The rain recorded Landhi was 12.0mm, Masroor 08.0mm, Shahrah-e-Faisal 05.0mm, North Karachi 4.6mm, Nazimabad 4.2mm, Saddar 4.0mm, Gulshan-e-Hadeed 2.4mm and Airport 2.0mm. Light to moderate with isolated heavy rain falls occurred at number of places in lower Sindh.
Chief amount of rain falls were recorded at Diplo 72.0mm, Chhor 47.0mm, Mitthi 42.0mm, Islamkot and Nagarparkar 29.0mm each, Dhahli 15.0mm, Badin 08.0mm. Weather remained hot/very hot and humid elsewhere in the province.
Rain or thundershower with gusty winds is likely to occur at scattered places in Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Karachi Divisions, at a few places in Sukkur and Larkana Divisions over the next 24 hours.
Widespread rain/thundershowers/gusty winds with a few moderate to heavy falls are likely to occur in Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Karachi Divisions. Rain/thundershower may also occur at scattered places in Sukkur and Larkana Divisions over the next 48 hours, the Met Office forecasted.
