ISLAMABAD: One of the most anticipated summit attempts on K2 came to an end after Mirza Ali announced that his sister Samina Baig would not be able to continue the expedition after she fractured her arm, local media sources stated.
“We sadly called off our Stand High Stand Firm K2 expedition 2015,” Ali said in a message posted on WhatsApp on Monday for the fans following the duo’s progress on the second highest mountain in the world.
“Despite rest, Samina complained of severe pain acting up while she was tightening her crampons,” said Ali. While descending to the base camp on Saturday, Samina also injured her arm when a rock fell on her.
Samina, who grew up in the hamlet of Shimshal in the Hunza valley, became the first and the youngest Pakistani woman to climb the Mount Everest in 2013, becoming an inspiration for other women.
