On the directive of Karachi Commissioner and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, the KMC carried out campaign against all giant, illegal, substandard and damaged billboards during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.

“More than 250 illegal and substandard hoardings have been removed from Saddar, Gulshan e Iqbal, North Nazimabad and other areas of the city, while thousands of banners and posters of every kind have also been removed that were affecting the beauty of the city,” Spokesperson KMC Basheer Ahmed Sadozai said on Tuesday.

He said the hoardings from Karsaz Road were removed on Tuesday and the campaign against the hoardings would be intensified after Eid holidays. The KMC administrator has directed local taxes department of KMC to take immediate steps to remove big and weak billboards so that the citizens could be saved from possible life and property loss due to predicted heavy monsoon rains.

Siddiqui said the already existing guidelines for billboards should be implemented. The advertising devices including hoardings and flexes should be installed in this manner that neither the traffic flow could be disturbed by it nor accidents could take place.

“Incidents of falling of billboards have taken place in the past, therefore installation of such billboards will not be allowed which would be against rules or substandard. Meanwhile, it is also the responsibility of advertising companies that they cooperate with the KMC,” he said.
