It is reported that Espanyol’s Kiko Casilla is on the verge of joining Real Madrid for a fee of €6m.

Los Blancos are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper following the departure of Iker Casillas, with Manchester United’s David De Gea initially the club’s number one target.

However, it remains far from certain that the Santiago Bernabeu side will be able to secure his signature this summer, so Casilla was sounded out as an alternative.

According to AS, a deal to take the 28-year-old to the Spanish capital will be concluded over the next few days, with Espanyol Coach Sergio admitting that it is an opportunity Casilla cannot say no to.

Kiko Casilla came through the Real Madrid youth system but left in 2007 in search of first team football. Following a season with Espanyol B, he moved to the first team in 2008 and has not looked back since. His performances last season saw him called into the Spain squad and he made his debut against Germany. Casilla is a very good keeper, so, if he signs, he could take advantage of Manchester United’s unwillingness to sell David de Gea to finally make the number one shirt his own.
