Ailing Wahab ruled out of Sri Lanka ODIs

LAHORE:

Fast bowler Wahab Riaz, who suffered a hand injury during the recent Test series against Sri Lanka, won’t be able to feature in the ongoing five-match ODI series against the Islanders as the pacer has been instructed to start bowling practice from July 24.

The pacer was expected to join the national team during the last two ODIs against Sri Lanka but his fresh medical report did not clear him.

Chief selector Haroon Rasheed told a private media outlet that Wahab had no chance to join the team before the fourth ODI hoping the bowler would be fit at least before the start of the two-match T20 series against the Islanders, with the first T20 being scheduled for July 30 after the ODI series ends on July 26.

Pakistan need a full strength team to win the ODI series against Sri Lank, currently level at 1-1, which in turn will enable the greenshirts to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy.
