The Punjab police have decided to set up a special wing within the Special Branch to gather information related to terrorism and sectarianism.
According to a police source, initially 200 personnel will be inducted into the special branch and it will work under the supervision of Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) of the Special Branch.
The source said that 12 intelligence officers will also be appointed in the Special Branch at the regional level and 44 intelligence operators at the district level.
“The Special Branch of the Punjab police is being modernised and well-facilitated like other law enforcement agencies’ secret wings and in this regard it had been decided to set up the intelligence wing in all special branches of police across the province,” the source said.
The source said that the intelligence wing would monitor activities of elements allegedly involved in terror and sectarian incidents and send reports to authorities concerned. The authorities would take action against them.
