The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to take immediate action against 31 mega corruption cases in the Pakistan Works Department (PWD).
According to a well-placed source, NAB has sent the legal notices to 40 PWD’s officer, who are being accused of around Rs 3 billion worth of financial scams in a mega corruption report.
NAB has decided to take action against 31 cases, of which four cases were registered in 1999, one case in 2009, four cases in 2013, 13 cases in 2014 and nine case has registered in current year, a source further revealed.
Sources said that NAB decided to investigate scams on a priority basis against ex-chief engineer Lahore, Shah Din Shaikh, Hafiz Mohammad Ramzan, Nighat Anwar and Azam Zafar who were involved in irregularities in 74 development projects.
Pakistan Today contacted the spokesman for National Accountability Bureau, however, he was reluctant to comment and said that he was not authorised to talk about the matter.
He further told Pakistan Today that he should be sent messages for the questions, then he will reply, however, he did not reply till the filing of this report.
On July 7, NAB had submitted a mega corruption report to the Apex Court Containing the names of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Former President Asif Ali Zardari, and Former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Parvez Ashraf, some ministers, top bureaucrats and government officers.
However, the court expressed dissatisfaction and directed NAB to include two additional columns in the report for further details.
Earlier, the bureau submitted an amended report to the Apex Court over the Mega Corruption cases, the report contained 50 each cases of financial scam, land scam and misuse of authority by public office holders, who have been investigated for the last 15 years.
The amended report includes two more columns containing the dates when an application against the individual was filed and when it was verified by the concerned authorities.
The court was informed that the investigation in the instant cases would be completed till September 2014.
