Mufti Popalzai ensures two Eids in Pakistan yet again

Pakistan is all set to celebrate two Eids yet again as Peshawar cleric Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai on Thursday announced that his followers would mark Eidul Fitr on Friday along with Saudi Arabia where the Shawaal moon was sighted on Thursday evening.

Muslims in other Mideast countries will also celebrate Eidul Fitr today (Friday) while the faithful living in Turkey, Australia, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan would also mark the Muslim holy festival today.

The Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, the main official body tasked for sighting of the moon in Pakistan, is scheduled meet today, as the Met Department predicted that the moon was highly likely to be sighted on Friday evening.

In Peshawar, some groups led by Mufti Popalzai of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan claimed that the Shawaal crescent had been sighted and Eidul Fitr would be celebrated in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the tribal areas on Friday.

The meeting of an unofficial committee held at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan announced late on Thursday that the moon has been sighted, and they have received sufficient testimonies in this regard from various parts of KP. It was announced that Eid will be celebrated in different districts of KP, including Bannu, Kohat, Charsadda, Mardan, Swat, Peshawar, and North and South Waziristan Agencies.
