JI holds politicians responsible for outages

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter on Wednesday launched a vigorous drive against the K-Electric (KE) by holding a peaceful protest demonstration and sit-in outside the K-Electric head office in Karachi to register the anger and unrest of Karachiites against dismal performance of privately-owned KE and its failure to control power breakdowns and load shedding.

A large number of people from different walks of life including the representatives of traders and civil society, as well as, residents of the adjoining areas participated in the protest.

Addressing the protestors, the JI leaders held the nexus of KE management and corrupt politicians responsible for the electricity-related vows of Karachi. They said these corrupt politicians provide support to the KE’s worst policies that were responsible for the miseries of more than 20 million residents of this mega city. They said the KE had made the city of lights a city of darkness. They said majority of Karachiites have been facing a perpetual mental and physical trauma due to the unending greed of the KE’s ownership to maximize their profits at the cost of hapless electricity consumers.

They alleged that the KE was supported by the armed wings of some so-called political parties who terrorise the electricity consumers to pay inflated bills. The JI leaders said the self-proclaimed political owners of the city were hands in glove with the KE to fleece Karachiites and they were equally responsible for the deteriorating situation. The JI leaders raised questions on financial affairs of the KE and demanded a third party audit of its accounts.

JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Hafiz Naeem announced to further escalate the campaign against the KE after the Eid-ul-Fitar to save the electricity consumer of Karachiites from looting the KE.
