Sobia Moqaddam, 33, is the only minister to be appointed to Gilgit Baltistan cabinet, belonging to a region where the literacy rate for women remains low and cultural barriers prevent women from voting.
Sobia has managed to become the first female minister from Diamer valley in the newly elected regional government.
One of the six women in the 33 member legislative assembly, she has also been appointed the Minister for Women Development.
“Diamer Valley is a completely different place from other parts of the region,” she told a local media outlet.
Tribal culture prevails in the society.
