Petition filed in SC after Ayyaz Sadiq loses it over NAB list

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Speaker National Assembly Ayyaz Sadiq for his alleged outburst against the NBA chairman following the submission of a list in the court containing the names of politicians and bureaucrats allegedly involved in corruption.

Petitioner Shahid Orakzai has prayed the court to issue a stay barring the speaker from performing his duty until the petition was adjudicated.

The petitioner has contended that the NA speaker has threatened NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry by saying that a reference will be sent against him to the Supreme Judicial Council or an NA committee could initiate disciplinary action against him.

The petitioner said that the NAB chairman provided information to the apex court after it had ordered for furnishing the same. “The statement given by Sadiq has exposed his neutrality and he cannot preside over assembly sessions,” the petitioner said.
