Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) newly elected District and Town council members hailing from the Peshawar chapter on Monday decided to tender their resignation in protest against the arrest of former Mines and Minerals minister Ziaullah Afridi by Ehtesab Commission.

While addressing a news conference here at press club, PTI Town Councillor Irfan said that around 30 district council and 17 Town council members submitted their resignation to their leaders, “If the PTI leader Ziaullah Afridi was not released as soon as possible.”

Flanked by district councillor members and town councillor members of Peshawar, Irfan Khan alleged that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister planned Ziaullah Afridi arrest, adding that CM Khattak and Yaseen Khalil are involved in corruption but the provincial Ehtesab Commission was not doing anything regarding this. How is the Ehtesab Commission fair and free from political interference, he asked.

He further said that Ziaullah Afridi was not in favour of entering the Qaumi Watan Party again in the provincial government and because of that CM removed him and involved him in false corruption cases, adding that around 17 FIRs were lodged against the CM left and right by activists but no action was taken by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission.

He said that the Ehtesab Commission claims that they are independent and working without any pressure, if that is the case then why not arrest the CM who is involved in many cases?

He also alleged that earlier Yasin Khalil was removed from the ministry and he was openly talked against the CM but now he was in favour of the CM.

He also criticised the Ehtesab Commission and said that one of its members was the DG of the Commission while his wife was the minister of information technology and was an active member of PTI. In such a situation how can anyone give a fair decision?

Khan warned that if Ziaullah Afridi  was not released in a day or two then all the district and town councillors will give their resignation in protest and will come out on the roads against the government.
