ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Indian counterpart Narendra Modi’s meeting on Friday was an icebreaker for both countries, given the escalating tensions between them, however, the fate of dialogue process is yet to be decided.
An official present at Ufa talks told a local media outlet that New Delhi was still reluctant to resume the ‘peace process’ until Mumbai attacks’ issue was brought to a close.
The official further claimed that Pakistan was persuading India to resume dialogue on all issues, including Kashmir.
The official added that Ufa meeting had encouraged the two leaders for a meetup.
“Both Russia and China did not want the SCO summit to be undermined by the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India,” the official explained.
Pakistani government came under criticism of Nawaz Sharif for his ‘failure’ to raise the Kashmir dispute and India’s alleged interference in Pakistan’s internal matters.
A five-point joint statement issued after the Ufa talks laid emphasis on discussions related to terrorism, including the issue of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the Mumbai attacks.
