Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information & Higher Education Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani on Monday said Ehtesab Commission is a fully independent and autonomous body and has the mandate to eliminate corruption from society.

He said Ziaullah Afridi was arrested by the commission on corruption allegations; however, the court would decide whether he was guilty. He urged the masses to refrain from protests against the arrest and not make the commission controversial.

In a statement, he said it was the credibility of the commission that the sitting minister was arrested on corruption charges, adding that in the past, legislators had their bills passed for their own benefits.

Mushtaq Ghanni said that the PTI led provincial government is committed to eradicating corruption from society and have constituted the autonomous commission to fulfil its commitment.

The minister said that Ehtesab commission has built the confidence of the masses and empowered them to hold any government department or dignity accountable in case of corrupt practices or poor performance.

He said nobody can doubt the credibility of the commission after the arrest of the provincial minister, adding that PTI is pursuing politics of transparency, merit and justice in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
