Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Monday directed the excise and other relevant departments to launch crackdown against production and sale of unprocessed wine in the city.
“Police, excise and relevant departments of anti-narcotics should monitor the production and sale of prohibited wine in the city. They should spread their patrolling and take strict action against the people involved in selling such wine as it has taken many lives during previous Eid,” he said in a letter sent to the excise department.
Siddiqui said the relevant departments should keep a strict eye on those poison-sellers and the people linked to that heinous crime. He said usually the citizens of slum areas become victims of those criminals producing poison; therefore, it was necessary that it should be stopped at every level. “Raw wine is produced illegally through nonstandard poisonous substances after which it becomes like a toxic,” he said.
Siddiqui appealed to the citizens to keep strict eye on toxic wine producers and report it to the area police or district administration officer.
