Sania Mirza clinched her first-ever women’s doubles Grand Slam title as she and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis won the Wimbledon 2015 crown on Saturday.
The top seeds overcame the second-seeded Russian duo of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 in the summit clash that lasted two hours and 47 minutes.
In an intense final set, the gritty Sania and Martina staged a stunning comeback from 2-5 down to take it 7-5 to win the Championship.
This was Sania’s first final appearance at the Wimbledon, while Martina has two doubles (1996, 1998) prior to Saturday’s triumph and one singles title (1997) to her credit.
