PMD, MET forecast rains and thundershowers in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Rawalpindi-Islamabad
More than 50 villages were inundated on Sunday when floodwater eroded a protective dyke of the Nullah Dek in the Pasrur tehsil of Sialkot district.
According to reports, the flood in Nullah Dek, triggered by heavy rain, inundated more than 50 villages where thousands of people left their homes in search of safer places. The raging floodwaters also inundated thousands of acres of agriculture land in the area. The maximum flow of flood water was recorded 8955 cusecs in Naullah Dek.
The breach in the dyke exposed tall claims made by the administration which had claimed to have spent Rs 120 million over the embankment.
Moreover, there was a medium level flood in River Chenab at Head Marala near Sialkot on Sunday. The maximum flow of flood water was recorded 145655 cusecs in Chenab at Head Marala Barrage here on Sunday.
According to Focal Person Sialkot Flood Control Malik Abid Awan (DOC Sialkot), the flood situation was totally under control in all the Rivers Chenab, Tavi and Jammu and seasonal Naullahs Aik, Dek, Palkhu and Bhed in Sialkot district.
The flood water was souring up in these rivers and seasonal Nullahs due to ongoing heavy rains in Sialkot region and its catchment areas in neighbouring Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, he revealed.
He said the red alerted district administration of Sialkot was round-the-clock monitoring the flood situation. DCO Sialkot Dr. Asif Tufail visited the flooded villages in Chaprar, Bajwat and along the banks of the flooded Naullah Dek in Pasrur tehsil here today. He reviewed the ongoing flood relief measures.
He said the flow of flood water was 10534 cusecs in River Jammu Tavi and 3514 cusecs in River Munaawar Tavi near Chaprar-Sialkot on Sunday. These two rivers were also in low level flood. He said the overall flood situation was totally under control in Sialkot district.
BAD WEATHER AHEAD:
In the meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain-thundershower at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, Islamabad, Malakand, Hazara, Kalat divisions, upper FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 24 hours.
Met Office has also forecast rain at scattered places in parts of Balochistan including Sibi, Zhob, Kalat, Nasirabad divisions and upper Sindh Sukkur, Larkana divisions.
Scattered heavy falls are also expected in Gujranwala, Lahore and Hazara divisions during the next 24 hours.
HOME MINISTER AND CHIEF SECRETARY VISIT CONTROL ROOM OF PDMA
Separately, Punjab Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal accompanied by Chief Relief Commissioner Nadeem Ashraf visited the control room of PDMA.
Surprisingly, the chief relief commissioner while giving a briefing informed that all rivers, canals and water channels are flowing normally in the province.
Despite the Met Office forecast, he said that there is no possibility of heavy rains during next few days. He said that there is no threat of rains and flood in south Punjab and Sindh. He said that rivers, canals and water channels are being regularly monitored and data is being regularly received after every six hours.
