Local Bodies’ candidates in the federal capital are to face serious challenges relating to civil problems, as overall conditions in the city are deteriorating, said a press release issued on Friday by the Islamabad Citizens Committee.
The aspiring candidates must prepare themselves to solve long-standing problems, particularly relating to unauthorised encroachments and the illegal ‘kachi abadis’.
There is growing illegal and unauthorised construction within and alongside the residential sectors particularly along the nullahs and water streams, besides illegal use of residential properties in the form of schools, offices, beauty parlours, that have made the life of the local people miserable.
A spokesman of the Citizen Committee, M. Aftab, said there is growing illegal parking of vehicles on footpaths in residential as well as commercial areas. Failure to develop already allotted sectors after more than 20 years of allotment is also a matter of great concern.
The statement further said there is no maintenance or construction of roads, streets and footpaths. The city also lacks proper street lights.
The Citizens Committee said that augmentation of the water supply is required on urgent basis. The present requirement of capital is 180 million gallons per day, whereas available supply from different sources is 62 million. Sewage disposals into rain water nullahs and drainage needs to be rectified.
The Citizen Committee headed by Latif Ahmed Rana had invited the attention of the Capital Development Authority many times, but response from their side is negligible.
It was further stated that general law and order situation in the capital is deteriorating. During the day and at night-time streets crimes and robberies are on rise.
