The Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Dmitry Mezentsev revealed on Thursday that granting Pakistan and India full membership to the group is on the agenda for the July 9-10 meeting.

According to Mezentsev, a resolution will be presented to start the procedures for granting the two Subcontinent neighbours full-membership of SCO.

Both, Pakistan and India, currently have observer status at the SCO.

Once the resolution is passed, the organisation will enter a new developmental stage both in economic cooperation and regional security.

During the July 9-10 meeting, 14 significant documents are expected to be deliberated upon and signed by the respective heads of states of member countries. The documents include the “SCO Development Strategy towards 2015,” which draws blueprint for the development of SCO in the coming 10 years.

SCO, a Eurasian political, economic and military organisation, is scheduled to meet in the Russian city of Ufa on July 9 and 10.

Earlier, the foreign office remarked that “As an Observer State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Pakistan has been making substantive contribution to regional peace, security and development.”
