Former Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal died on Thursday, two Saudi sources said.
A Saudi foreign ministry spokesperson and family members too confirmed the news.
“May God accept him in paradise,” the prince’s nephew Saud Mohammed al-Abdullah al-Faisal said on Twitter.
His death comes just two months after stepping down as the Kingdom’s foreign minister, a job which he held for 40 years.
Prince Saud was appointed as FM in 1975, making him the world’s longest serving foreign minister.
He was replaced on April 29 by Adel al-Jubeir, the then ambassador to US.
Prince Saud’s death six months after Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz died. He was replaced by Crown Prince Salman.
