Dawn journalist’s parents murdered

The police recovered two-day-old bodies of a retired officer of Pakistan Railways and his wife from their house late on Wednesday night.

Police said that bodies of retired Railways PR officer Dr. Javed Zaidi, 65, and his wife Kausar, 60,were found in their house located in Shershah Block, Garden Town when their son, a journalist working for Dawn newspaper in Islamabad, could not contact them on the telephone.

The son, Hassan Belal Zaidi, said that he had asked some of his friends to go check on his parents when they did not take his phone calls. He added that his friends found the main gate locked from outside but they became suspicious on smelling a foul odour in the air.

The police broke open the gate and found the bodies of Dr Zaidi and his wife Kausar Zaidi in the bedroom and basement, respectively. They had been stabbed to death with a sharp-edged weapon.

The bodies were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police sources said that the circumstantial evidence hinted that the murders were committed during a dacoity as the family had reported stolen items, including a car.
