Five agreements on cards on establishment of Indian and Pakistani banks in each other’s countries, three-year multiple entry visas for Pakistani businessmen, bus travellers on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Delhi-Lahore route
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi are expected to meet on Friday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Ufa.
According to an Indian news channel, at least five agreements are expected to be signed between the two leaders who will also discuss bilateral relations between the two neighbours.
The expected agreements include the establishment of Indian and Pakistani banks in each other’s countries while three-year multiple entry visas is also likely to be given to Pakistan businessmen. Multiple entry visas are also likely to be given to bus travellers on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route and Delhi-Lahore route.
When asked to comment on the likelihood of meeting between the two premiers, Foreign Office spokesman confirmed that Pakistan had responded positively to a suggestion from the other side for a meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the summits. He recalled that it has always been prime minister’s policy to seek cordial and cooperative ties with all neighbouring countries, including India.
It was in the pursuit of this objective that the prime minister would be meeting the Indian prime minister for a comprehensive exchange on all issues of common interest. He said that during the two-day visit to Ufa, the prime minister is looking forward to hold meetings with the participating leaders including the Russian, Chinese and Afghan presidents.
