The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the flood committee to submit the report of a meeting of the committee scheduled for July 13, 2015 in the chamber.

The apex court issued these directions during the hearing of the case regarding the flood in Sindh and other areas. Justice Saqib Nisar while giving remarks during the hearing said, “We prayed that the floods would not come this year but they came, we want minimum loss of life and properties of the people.”

He further said that monsoon has started and any untoward incident can occur any time adding that government machinery should be prepare for this and initiate precautionary measures for the protection of life and property of people as both are their basic rights.

The apex court while expressing its concerns said that there was no need of formation of committee by federal government in the presence of flood committee adding that concerned departments should be included in the flood committee.

The apex court has appointed Marvi Memon as its representative in the committee and dismissed the notification of the committee constituted by Federal Ministry of Water and Power while making it the part of flood committee.

Deputy Attorney General Suhail Mehmood informed the apex court that federal government has formed a committee and all officials of concerned departments have been included in it adding that its meeting was held on day before.

On this Justice Saqib Nisar said that to convene the meeting of the committee one-day before the hearing of the case was mere show, so many meetings would have been held by this committee, he concluded.
