Rangers’ law officer resigns citing ‘personal reasons’

KARACHI

A Pakistan Rangers’ law officer in Sindh stepped down on Wednesday and sent a resignation letter to the home department, according to sources.

Special public prosecutor Ghulam Shabbir Babar was among the nine law officers hired on a contract for the paramilitary force during the ongoing operation in Karachi, to plead cases before the anti-terrorism courts on behalf of Rangers.

Babar stated that he had worked with Rangers over the past 22 months, and that there were personal reasons behind his resignation.

Shunning all notion that he was quitting due to pressure or security concerns, the lawyer stated that he wanted to resume private practice.

Sources close to the prosecutor said that he had repeatedly made security requests, but was ignored.

They said that the salaries of Rangers’ prosecutors were released after delays and they were overburdened because of the ongoing operation.
