State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali informed the Senate on Wednesday that the menace of loadshedding would end by 2017-18.

Responding to reports, Sher Ali claimed that power loadshedding was restricted to six to eight hours in urban and rural areas, with zero load-management at Sehri, Iftari and Taraveeh.

Sher Ali further added that the government had cleared a Rs480 billion in circular debt, resulting in an addition of 1700 MW to the national grid.

Abid said the capacity of government-owned power generation plants has also been enhanced to 2,700 MW and currently a record of 16,300MW was being produced. Regarding heavy load-shedding in coastal belt of Sindh, he said that out of total 21 feeders, 16 feeders were running on 90 percent losses.
