The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday removed its earlier objection on the bail plea of renowned model Ayyan Ali and decided to hear the petition.

Earlier, the LHC registrar had declared that the bail plea of Ayyan as not maintainable under the objection that a petition for bail had already been rejected by the LHC.

Ayyan’s counsel Khurrum Latif Khosa said that the earlier rejected plea was against a Customs court, while the fresh bail petition directly addressed the LHC. Justice Abdul Sami of the LHC took the lawyer’s view into consideration and declared that a separate bail petition before the LHC is maintainable.

In her application, the supermodel sought bail, adopting the stance that she went to the airport to hand the money over to her brother who was arriving in the city that day via an Emirates flight. She also mentioned that she did not intend to take money abroad, and that she did not have a boarding card.

Ayyan’s previous applications for bail were rejected by a Rawalpindi customs court and the LHC.

The supermodel is facing charges of money laundering and currency smuggling. The cases are being heard by a Rawalpindi customs court. The cases have been adjourned until July 11 and July 13 respectively.
