Ban imposed on acquiring ICT lands for residential purposes: Nisar

Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Thursday said a complete ban has been imposed on acquiring lands of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) area for residential purposes.

Responding to calling attention notice in Senate regarding forcible grabbing of land in Chak Mohri Dakhli Sihala by Emaar Group, he said the local police has apprehended three persons belonging to Emaar Group on charges of firing.

He said 1,500 acres of land in Sihala area was acquired by Emaar from DHA, which in turn had obtained it from CDA 2007. The land grabbing mafia has completely been eliminated from ICT area, Nisar added.

He said in last 10 to 11 years the land grabbers have become powerful in federal capital.

The clash started in Sihala, when Emaar Group started constructing a wall on the disputed land. 10 persons, including 6 women, were injured in the cross firing. Reportedly both parties are engaged in negotiations for settling the dispute, he said.

Earlier, Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh of MQM alleged that the ancestral lands of people were being grabbed by land mafia in Sihala area.
