The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has returned seven million rupees it owed to the former fast-bowling prodigy Shoaib Akhtar, according to reliable sources from the Press Trust of India, reportedly.
The money was deducted from Shoaib’s earnings from January to November 2009 when he was fined by the PCB on disciplinary grounds, sources reported.
Shoaib’s annual earnings included his central contract payments, match fees and win bonuses.
An official of the board said that during a meeting between Chairman of the executive committee, Najam Sethi and Akhtar, the matter was amicably resolved.
Many other top officials of the PCB were present at the Gaddafi stadium to attend the meeting.
“The matter is now closed and Shoaib Akhtar returned happy with the outcome,” he said.
The appellate tribunal fined and banned Akhtar for 18 months for violating his contract and striking teammate Mohammad Asif with a bat before the World T20 in South Africa in 2007 and later on for criticising the PCB and management.
The fast-bowler, then, filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) and Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza set aside the fine and the ban in February this year, directing the PCB to return the amount.
