While heavy rains lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for more than three hours and resulted in the deaths of 11 people, the weather remained pleasant as rain and winds picked up momentum Risalpur in Nowshera, Kohat, Swat, DI Khan and Dir districts besides other areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The weather event which started at 10am continued to lash the twin cities for more than three hours. The rain flooded the nullahs in the twin cities and water entered in houses situated by side of Layyah Nullah.
Rescue personnel recovered the bodies of two youngsters between 17-20 years old from a nullah in the carriage factory area. The rain also flooded low lying areas of Rawalpindi, damaged the houses besides adversely disrupting the flow of traffic between the two cities. Five people drowned in Nullah Leh in different localities while four were dead in Islamabad in other rain related incidents.
Low lying areas of the two cities presented a look of swimming pools and youngsters were seen playing in the water accumulated in streets and at roads.
The Leh Nullah overflew from its banks at some places and entered houses of surrounding areas including Arya Mohallah, Gawalmandi, Kattarian and other localities.
