Rain expected in Karachi

Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, has issued an alert in the wake of expected rains in the metropolis.
Presiding over a meeting on Monday, Siddique asked Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and other relevant bodies to take necessary preventive steps to avoid any loss of life and property that may occur as a result of the rains.
The Met Office has forecasted rains in Karachi during the second week of July.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the concerned departments and civic agencies. A decision was also taken to clean storm water drains on an emergency basis.
PMD also informed the meeting that rains are expected in the metropolis starting second week of July. However, the intensity of rains is unknown until now.
The meeting also asked K-Electric to take precautionary measures to ensure safety from fallen wires and to run a public information campaign in this regard.
The meeting also decided to place hospitals on alert during the monsoon rains and take necessary measures for protection of citizens against dengue.
