ISLAMABAD:

Law and Justice ministry officials told a private media outlet on Sunday that the provinces’ lack of interest has become a block in getting any laws passed for minorities in Pakistan.

As per sources, the new laws were going to allow members of the Hindu community to register their marriages for the first time in Pakistan.

Over two million Hindus would have benefited from this bill.

The Supreme Court had directed the law ministry to write to all provinces for empowering Hindus under Article 144 to introduce the Hindu Marriage Bill 2015, before parliament.

“Provinces have yet to respond to the centre’s request, the law ministry repeatedly wrote to them since April 2015,” said MNA Ramesh Kumar.

Currently, the ministry of law and justice prepared the Hindu Marriage Bill, 2015 which would only be operating in Islamabad Capital Territory, Law Secretary justice (retd) Raza Khan said.
