CHICAGO: Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison, the first Muslim to be elected to the United States Congress, has lauded the Pakistan government’s determined measures, especially the Zarb-e-Azb military operation, to stamp out extremism from the country, when Pakistani Consul General Faisal Niaz Tirmizi met him.
The meeting took place in Minneapolis, a day ahead of the American Independence Day. The US lawmaker also praised the governmental steps to improve economic indicators, particularly in industry.
Congressman Ellison said the Pakistani-American community has played its role in the socio-economic development of the US and that he has close association with its members.
Ellison also said he had met Pakistani Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani at President Obama’s Iftar Dinner in Washington last month, and he appreciated the work being done the Pakistani missions in Washington and Chicago to further strengthen US-Pakistan ties.
