Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation, PEDO/Govt of KP, has prepared a plan to develop hydel potential of 3911 MW in the province consisting of 29 projects out of which five projects with the total capacity of 362 MW are located in District Dir.
This was stated during presentation by PEDO CEO Akbar Ayub Khan on the eve of ground breaking ceremony of Koto HPP in District Lower Dir.
The projects will be constructed with province’s own resources in public sector and the electricity can also be used to develop industries in the province. This project will be completed with the total cost of 14.7 billion rupees within 48 months.
The EPC contract of the project has been awarded to Chinese company after competitive bidding. Work on two more projects – 12 MW Karora District Shangla and 10 MW Jabori District Mansehra – has also been awarded and its ground breaking is expected soon.
Four other projects in District Dir including 150 MW Sharmai HPP are intended to be developed through private sector. In addition as special initiative of the present government, 44 mini micro projects are also under implementation in Dir region. These projects will be for off grid communities to provide cheap electricity to poor people. The project will be completed within one year.
