It has been decided in a meeting of departmental heads of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) under the chairmanship of KMC Administrator Roshan Ali Shaikh that the post of municipal magistrate should be restored.
Three model Bachat Bazaars will be set up in different areas before Eid-ul-Fitr. Steps will be taken to clean and beautify 28 KMC main roads, bridges and underpasses. Encroachments around the CivicCenter will be completely removed and the premises will be beautified. Forthright action will be taken against illegal charged parking and FIR will be registered against the responsible, the meeting decided. Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui was also present on the occasion.
Roshan Shaikh said a letter should be written to the government for restoration of municipal magistrate so that immediate and fast action could be taken against the people violating municipal rules. Implementation of municipal regulations was easy in presence of municipal magistrate because the violating people were punished.
He said three model Bachat Bazaars would be set up in different areas of the city which would continue for 10 days. Garments, cloths, shoes and other such stuff would be available which would directly be brought from companies so that the citizens could get access of things at cheap rates. The Bachat Bazaars will be set up on Rashid Minhas Road, Kashmir Road and in North Nazimabad.
All the encroachments around CivicCenter should be beautified by removing encroachments and city wardens should be posted so that the encroachments could not be re-established. Flowers, plants, grass would be grounded on footpaths and walls be painted, he said.
He said air conditioned vehicles should be used to bring meat into the city from slaughter houses, and the meat should be properly covered so that the citizens could avail clean and hygienic meat. The Karachi administrator said that a full-scale crackdown should be started against charged parking and it should be removed at every cost.
He said development works should be expedited. The purpose of stopping contractors’ payments was only to pay salaries and pensions of the employees on time so that they did not face trouble during Ramadan and Eid.
