David John Sohail is a resident of Karachi, Pakistan. A person with disabilities, John lost both his legs in a train accident when he was just 14 years of age.
David has been limited to using a wheelchair since then but he thanks God for being an active man and doing everything that he wants to, for himself.
While speaking to David, Pakistan Today was told David got artificial legs made in Pakistan 4 times but was unable to get a good result out of them.
Pakistani doctors told David that if he wanted to walk again, he would have to go abroad for his operation, something which David cannot afford.
What is interesting to note here is that David John, apart from all the tragedies in life, is a fantastic wheelchair basketball player, and wants to further apply for wheelchair basketball in National Paralympics.
However, David was refused the application owing to ‘no funds for wheelchair basketball players’, as being told by officials.
David further applied for government jobs but has been rejected countless times.
When asked, David John told Pakistan Today that he had written a letter to the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Sindh, but he did not get any response.
David believed that the Pakistani government was ignoring him on purpose, and he claims that he will not sit out on the roads and beg for money, even though he can.
To bring his story across to the media and make his voice be heard, David approached countless media organisations, and requests the government to do more for people who are handicapped or have disabilities.
Will David still go unheard?
