Reham Khan, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, on Saturday said that the approach of Sindh government towards heat wave victims was completely apathetic.
She visited Jinnah Hospital in Karachi to inquire about health of heat stroke patients but it was too late. The hospital administration told Reham that all heat stroke patients had been discharged.
Talking to media persons on the occasion, she admitted delay in her visit. She said nobody was willing to accept responsibility for heat wave deaths. The deaths had occurred due to insensitivity of the rulers, she added.
She said the authorities would only feel sufferings of the masses if they come out of their air-conditioned rooms. “The provincial government of Sindh does not want to accept any responsibility,” she added
She said her visit was a follow-up to the PTI’s chief earlier visit, adding that the purpose of her visit was completely humanitarian. Earlier, speaking upon her arrival in Karachi outside the Jinnah International Airport, Reham said she had personally organised a shelter where people could come and seek respite from the heat during the day.
“We will provide water, iftar and a cool environment to our brothers and sisters for however long this difficult time prevails.”
She said Nestle had provided them immense support in their relief efforts for heat wave victims. The PTI chief’s wife was, however, quick to point out that it was the responsibility of the Sindh government to cater to heat wave victims. “This is not the first time this has happened in Pakistan. This has happened before and they (Sindh government) have no arrangements for a rapid response.”
