An election tribunal Saturday adjourned the hearing of NA-122 alleged rigging case till July 6.

The tribunal comprising Justice (retd) Kazim Ali Malik resumed hearing of the election petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan challenging election of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from NA-122 Lahore constituency.

An associate of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s counsel appeared before the tribunal and submitted that Sadiq could not appear due to other engagements. He pleaded the court to allow time.

At this, the tribunal adjourned the matter till July 6 directing Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s counsel to complete his arguments till next date of hearing.

In his final arguments earlier, Barrister Asjad Saeed, counsel of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, had submitted that allegations leveled against his client and polling staff were baseless. He contended that NADRA and local commission had confirmed that elections were conducted in NA-122 constituency in a free, fair and transparent manner. He further said that no action was required on Imran Khan’s plea being non-maintainable.

It is pertinent to mention that Imran Khan’s counsel had already completed his final arguments.
