Federal, Sindh govts committed to making country polio-free: Ibad

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said on Friday that the federal and Sindh governments were committed to making the country a polio-free, and actions were being taken to eradicate this harmful disease. He showed concern over rise in polio cases in recent years throughout the country, which had affected Pakistan’s credibility.

He urged citizens to come forward and join hands with institutions to eliminate polio disease from the country. He said the Sindh government would always be thankful to those institutions who were running polio eradication campaigns, including Rotary Foundation.

Dr Ibad stated this while talking to a delegation led by International Polio Plus Committee’s Chairman Michael McGovern. The delegation comprised five members including Rotary Foundation’s Vice-Chairman Caral Sandak, and Polio Plus Committee’s International Advisor Aziz Memon. On this occasion, Michael briefed about the efforts taken by International Polio Plus Committee against the disease and said that Pakistan was one of top three most affected countries in the world in polio cases. He said it is good to know that polio cases appeared in Pakistan were less than last year.

Michael further said that recent efforts had been taken to boost polio campaigns that have now brought good results. He said Rotary had been working for polio-free campaigns since 1985 and it was now at the frontline in all over the world.
