Two new police stations inaugurated

Two new police stations were inaugurated in Karachi Company and Shamas Colony on Wednesday with a view to ensure effective policing and address the complaints of citizens on an immediate basis.

The Islamabad IGP, Tahir Alam Khan, formally inaugurated these police stations. SP (Saddar) Zone Office in sector G-10. DIG Sultan Azam Temuri, Acting SSP Muhammad Ilyas, SP (Saddar) Habib Ullah, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Station House Officers (SHOs) of various police stations were also present on the occasion.

The IGP said that the purpose of establishing new police stations is to address the complaints of citizens on immediate basis and ensure effective policing in the city. He said that cooperation of citizens is very much crucial for effective policing and hoped that new police stations will ensure high vigilance against crime in the area.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad IGP said that crime rate has decreased during the last six months and efforts are underway to curb activities of criminal elements. He said that vigilance committees are being established with the cooperation of citizens for the same purpose of vigilance and successful policing.

The jurisdiction of Karachi Company police station will be sectors G-8 and G-9 while Inspector Khalid Mehmud Awan has been appointed as its pioneer SHO and 42 policemen have been initially deputed there.

Similarly, Shamas Colony police station, with SHO Inspector Abid Hussain, will cover the sectors H-12, H-13, I-12, I-13, CMT Colony, IJP road and Kashmir Highway while 28 cops have been deputed there.

IGP Islamabad said that 62 murder cases have been reported during the six months of this year as compared to 82 cases during the corresponding period in the last year, thus bringing decline in it to 24.39 per cent.

Similarly, he said that four cases of kidnapping for ransom have been registered this year as compared to eight such incidents during the corresponding period last year. Likewise, he said that 17 cases of dacoity, 169 of snatching valuables, 100 burglary incidents, 226 cases of car theft and 136 cases of bike theft have been registered during this year as compared to 32 cases of dacoity, 307 of snatching valuables, 148 burglary cases,421 cases of car theft and 223 cases of bike theft in last year.

Security and vigilance committees have been constituted in various areas to involve community in policing affairs, the IGP said and added that cooperation of citizens was crucial to inculcate friendly police ecology.
