Two missing citizens’ case: SHC orders formation of joint probe team

The Sindh High Court on Thursday directed the provincial home secretary to constitute a joint investigation team to investigate the allegations of detention of two citizens by the law enforcers.

A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar gave this direction while hearing the petitions seeking whereabouts of two missing men.

Petitioner, Muhammad Qamar, the father of a detainee, submitted that his son, Arsalan Qamar, was missing since April 04. He alleged his son was detained by the law enforcers in violation of the fundamental rights as neither they disclose his whereabouts nor produce him in any court of law.

He told the court that he had approached the police station concerned to seek information about his son, but the police did not disclose any clue to his son’s whereabouts. He added he made similar requests to DG Rangers for the recovery of his son but could no get any response.

Petitioner, Mohsin Zafar, submitted that his son Ali Asad Mohsin along with his fellow Fahad Shah was taken into custody by the police personnel from his workplace on April 04, but their whereabouts have not been disclosed yet. He requested the court to direct the law enforcers to produce them in the court.

Meanwhile, the same bench expressed displeasure over the South District’s SSP Investigation-II for failing to conduct the proceedings of JIT over detention of a citizen despite lapse of considerable time and directed him to conduct the proceedings.

The bench had taken up a petition filed by Sher Muhammad Baloch, who submitted that his son Faraz Khan Baloch, an employee of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari, was whisked away from the workplace by unknown persons, but till date the law enforcers had failed to track him down.
