Get witness statements in kidnapped lawyer case, IHC tells IG

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued orders to IG Police Islamabad to get record the statements of witnesses in connection with recovery of the lawyer kidnapped from the jurisdiction of I-9 police station.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui took up the case for hearing Wednesday.

IG police Islamabad Tahir Alam appeared before the court.

The court expressed displeasure over the performance of the police. The court remarked, “Police have made a matter of a serious nature a joke. Police are doing work only on paper in this case.”

Tahir Alam told the court that mobile location of Hammad Dandan Abbasi has been traced out. An ASI has been sent to Peshawar for conducting investigation on this count.

Petitioner Shahzad Akbar advocate told the court that a private school is also located near the place of the incident and security cameras are also installed therein. But police did not bother to procure the footage of these cameras.

The court directed Islamabad IG Tahir Alam to get record the statements of the witnesses through the investigation officers. The court also sought a reply from the ISI director.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till Friday.
