FY 2015-16 brings in dams worth Rs 18 billion

A sum of Rs 18 billion will be spent on the construction and preparation of feasibility reports  of dams and water supply schemes in the Rawalpindi division during  the financial year 2015-16.

Sources said process of preparation of feasibility reports in respect of four projects of construction of dams in Rawalpindi division is in progress.  Rs 35.069 million have been allocated for preparation of feasibility report for Rawal dam upraising project, Rs 27.805 million for feasibility report  of Thatha dam Rawalpindi, Rs 27.805 million for feasibility report of Qutab Bandi dam and Rs 48.260 for feasibility report of  DOODCHA dam. Chahan dam will go operational in December 2015.

Rawalpindi division Commissioner Zahid Saeed said government will spend Rs 18.61 billion for the completion of 30 dams and water supply schemes in Rawalpindi division. These include 13 schemes worth Rs 976 million of WASA and RDA. Upgradation of Rawal lake filtration plant is also part of these schemes. Rs  17.64 billion will be spent on construction and preparation of feasibility reports of new dams in Rawalpindi division.

He said that out of 17 schemes of the four dams relate to Rawalpindi and Chakwal, one for Jhelum, two for Islamabad and six for district Attock.
