Reference your reports about over 1,250 unfortunate deaths in Karachi because of excessive heat, primarily due dehydration, water contamination and lack of medical facilities. It is a sad reflection on governance in financial capital of Pakistan, which for over seven years has been ruled either by PPP in coalition with MQM or alone. As for the MQM it has been in power for over 12 years, and held post of health, apart from total control over Sindh Water Board, KPT, Sindh Building Control, City District Government etc. All that has been witnessed is theatrics by these two major political stake holders, blaming everybody other than themselves.
The recent statement of Sharjeel Memon that 1122 Emergency service was available, is nothing but mockery, given the fact that hardly any of expensive Mercedes ambulances are serviceable. Coming from a person, who during Thar famine where thousands died due to malnutrition and lack of clean drinking water, was alleged to have wrangled an air-conditioned mobile clinic donated by Japan for recreation at his farm house in Karachi, reflects nothing but resort to theatrics and denial, with no hope for improvement. It reminds those who have served in the PIA of another AZ crony appointed as MD of PIA in 2008, who ordered over 200 In-Flight Galley Service Trolleys from a country in Far East and got them delivered to Manchester, although national airline paid for them. These Galley Trolleys are in use of Flight Catering business, located in Manchester, owned by former MD, providing services to PIA on payment.
As long as there is no punishment for such criminals, starvation, insecurity, ghost schools, ghost clinics and inhumane treatment of deprived masses will continue. Land allocated for public amenity parks and graveyards will continue to be illegally occupied by corrupt mafia. Had it not been for Edhi Foundation, over 500 human remains of citizens of Karachi would not have been given proper decent burial.
