Police foil major terror bid: Home Minister

Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada on Wednesday confirmed that at least four terrorists were killed and two arrested in injured condition during police operation in Lahore who were planning a terror attack at IB Headquarters at the Mall.

Briefing to the media persons at CM secretariat, the Punjab home minister said that on Monday that three militants were killed and the one of them  blew himself. Furthermore, two others wounded were captured when police and counter-terrorism forces conducted raid in Pathan Colony neighborhood in Ferozewala town. He said that terrorists killed in the operation included Faisal Mubashar, Saqib Hussain and their leader Abdali.

He said that terrorists were planning an attack on intelligence Bureau office at Mall Road, Lahore. He said that the details were revealed by alleged suicide bomber Mehmood alias Abdullah who was arrested after getting injured during the operation.

Shuja Khanzada said the suicide bombers were trained for five-months in Afghanistan by an Indian citizen Maulana Asim who is an Al-Qaeda leader of the sub continent. They travelled from Wana to Dera Ismail Khan and then arrived in Lahore through a bus.

He said Pakistan and Afghanistan are assisting each other through intelligence sharing; therefore, terrorists will not find any place in Pakistan now.

The Home minister said that successes against terrorism are the result of operation Zarb e Azb.

The minister showed video of alleged terrorist Mehmood’s confessional statement and briefing by militant commander Abdali regarding their plan.

Khanzada said police seized three suicide bombing jackets, one rocket launcher, five Kalashnikov rifles, a large cache of bullets and maps of important buildings during the raid.
