The administration of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) has failed to clear dues of contractors supplying oxygen to the hospital and they have warned suspension of oxygen to the healthcare if the bills cannot be cleared on immediate basis, sources at ASH said on Wednesday.
The sources said that ASH’s management due to its financial crises had not paid Rs 10 million to the contractors. The contractors warned the hospital’s administration to clear the bills in account of oxygen supply within a week, otherwise they will stop gas supply to the hospital.
They feared that patients on ventilators may face inconvenience and routine operational work in other departments may be halted if contractors stop supply of oxygen.
ASH is one of the major teaching hospitals of the city being run by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, which is already facing multiple crises like scarcity of funds, shortage of drugs, suspension of meals to patients and other issues since last few years due to financial crises in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. The oxygen’s suspension may further increase miseries of patients in the hospital.
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Senior Director Medical Services Dr Salma Kausar was busy in the meeting when contacted for comments.
