LHC dismisses petition against Punjab University VC

The Lahore High Court Wednesday dismissed a petition challenging appointment of Vice Chancellor Punjab University Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, for non-prosecution.

Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan heard the petition filed by Shabbir Ahmad Randhawa.

The petitioner through his petition submitted that the Punjab University advertised for post of a professor of physics in 1988 and he applied along other candidates for the position. Despite insufficient experience, the selection board recommended appointment of Mujahid Kamran and the university syndicate illegally approved it, he added. He contended that the appointment of Mujahid Kamran was made in violation of the rules and regulations.

He pleaded the court to question the Vice chancellor under what authority he was holding office because his appointment as professor was made in violation of the rules.

However, the court dismissed the petition for non-prosecution as petitioner or his counsel failed to appear on Wednesday
