Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered indiscriminate crackdown against the elements producing and selling substandard and harmful edible oil and said that those playing with human lives deserve no leniency.

“Those involved in the evil trade of producing and selling substandard and unhygienic edible oil, ghee and other eatable items should be dealt with an iron hand,” the chief minister said.

He said that such elements should be behind the bars and deterrent action should be taken against them.

He also ordered to cancel the licenses of flour mills supplying substandard flour and said that these mills have no right to carry out their business and action should be taken against them as per law after meeting all legal requirements.

He issued these instructions while addressing a meeting regarding Ramzan Package through video link at the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that relief has been provided to the people of the province through historic Ramzan Package and implementation of the effective mechanism for supply of quality essential items, fruits and vegetables at reasonable rates in the Ramzan bazaars and open markets is continuing.

He said that protection of the interest of the people is one of the top priorities of the government and no one will be allowed to exploit the people in the form of profiteering.

“The minister, secretaries concerned and other authorities should continue to visit markets and bazaars along with the Ramzan bazaars for ensuring availability of quality food items at reasonable rates and pay visits to open markets and bazaars to monitor quality and prices of necessary commodities,” he said.

He directed that provincial administration should continue to play an active role for the provision of benefits of the Ramzan Package to the masses.

He said that besides Ramzan bazaars, availability of quality edible items in open market and bazaars at reasonable rate should also be ensured. He said that indiscriminate action should be taken against the elements involved in short weighing.
