Govt must announce emergency in Karachi to resolve water, power and other issues: Sirajul Haq

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq has demanded the federal government to announce emergency in connection with the recent killings of innocent people by heat stroke in Karachi and to take effective measures in order to resolve water and power issues of the masses.

He made this demand during his visit to Al-Khidmat Water Filtration Plant located in Federal Area, near Masjid-e-Rizwan on Monday. JI Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Naib Ameer Karachi Dr Osama Razi, Secretary Abdul Wahab, President Al-Khidmat Foundation Abdul Shakoor, Secretary Al-Khidmat Engr Abdul Aziz, Manzar Alam, Zahid Askari, Munim Zafar, Mehmood Hamid, Qazi Sadruddin and others were also present on the occasion.

Talking to media on the occasion, Siraj-ul-Haq further demanded that Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif visit Karachi on urgent basis and hold a cabinet meeting in Karachi over problems the masses were suffering from.

“I have been in Karachi for last two to three days and also visited different hospitals to inquire about the health of the patients who have been suffered by heat stroke and succumbed to death due to lack of treatment”, Siraj-ul-Haq added.

He further said that the volunteers of Al-Khidmat were providing free of cost water supply from the filtration plant to the patients and also providing first aid to the heat stroke patients.

Senator Siraj-ul-Haq reiterated that the provincial and federal governments were equally responsible for killing of innocent people by heat stroke and lack of basic necessities in the city.

“Those who are claiming to rule the Karachi for last 25years have failed to resolve the basic issues of the masses including water shortage and power supply”, he regretted.

He further said that the volunteers of Al-Khidmat have also setup relief camps where clean potable drinking water and ORS are also being provided to the people.

“Al-Khidmat volunteers are also making arrangements of Iftar for the bereaved families outside the Edhi Center, adding that 13 coffin carriers, three ambulances and 13 water filtration plants have been installed in the city by the volunteers of Al-Khidmat”, he added.
